Start Your Day Right: Automating Your Morning Routine with OpenClaw
OpenClaw News 编辑部
Imagine waking up not to a jarring alarm, but to a gentle voice briefing you on the weather, your first meeting, and the top news headlines—all tailored exactly to your interests.
This isn't science fiction. With OpenClaw 2.7, it's a 5-minute setup.
In this guide, we'll build a Morning Briefing Agent that runs automatically every day at 7:00 AM.
What You Need
- OpenClaw 2.7+ installed.
- Weather Skill (optional but recommended).
- TTS (Text-to-Speech) enabled (configured in
openclaw.json).
Step 1: Design the Briefing
First, we need to tell the agent what to say. We want a summary that is concise, informative, and encouraging.
We'll use a System Event payload to inject a prompt into the agent's context.
The Prompt:
"Good morning! It is now 7:00 AM. Please generate a morning briefing for me. Include:
- The current weather and forecast for today.
- My first calendar event (check my calendar).
- One interesting tech news headline.
- A motivational quote to start the day. Keep it under 200 words and speak it out loud."
Step 2: Schedule with Cron
We don't want to type this every morning. We'll use OpenClaw's Cron feature to schedule it.
You can set this up conversationally:
"Schedule a morning briefing every day at 7 AM. Ask me to check weather, calendar, and news, then speak the summary."
Or, you can define it manually in your config or via the CLI. Here is the JSON structure for the job:
{
"name": "morning-briefing",
"schedule": {
"kind": "cron",
"expr": "0 7 * * *",
"tz": "Asia/Shanghai"
},
"payload": {
"kind": "agentTurn",
"message": "Good morning! Generate my morning briefing: Weather, Calendar, 1 News Item, and a Quote. Use TTS to read it to me."
}
}
Step 3: Enabling Voice (TTS)
To make the agent speak, ensure your TTS is configured. If you are on macOS, OpenClaw can use the system voice or ElevenLabs if configured.
In your openclaw.json:
"tts": {
"engine": "elevenlabs",
"voiceId": "your-favorite-voice-id"
}
If you don't have ElevenLabs, the default system TTS works great too.
The Result
Now, every morning at 7:00 AM, your OpenClaw agent will wake up (even if the session was idle) and execute the task.
Agent:
"Good morning, Alex! ☀️ It's currently 12°C and sunny in Shanghai. You have a team sync at 10:00 AM. In tech news, OpenClaw just released Agent Swarms. Quote of the day: 'The best way to predict the future is to invent it.' Have a great day!"

Who should automate a morning routine first?
This guide is especially useful for three kinds of operators:
- People who already check the same inputs every morning, such as weather, calendar, commute, and one priority inbox.
- Founders or solo operators who need a calm daily startup ritual, because context switching is often the first productivity leak of the day.
- Anyone testing whether cron plus voice delivery is reliable enough for bigger automations, before moving on to recurring business workflows.
If your mornings are still unpredictable, start with a short text briefing first. Once the content stabilizes, add TTS and downstream automations.
Common setup judgment questions
When is a morning briefing useful enough to automate?
It is worth automating when you already gather the same 3 to 5 signals almost every day. If you are still experimenting with what belongs in the briefing, keep it manual for a week, then automate the stable version.
What should you leave out of the first version?
Skip anything brittle, slow, or hard to verify. Traffic, smart home actions, and long-form news summaries can come later. The best first version is short, predictable, and easy to trust.
